Brian Mc Garraghy from Grange (now based in Donegal) will be competing in his 30th Sligo Stages Rally this year – a remarkable achievement for sure. He will have his son Mark who has returned from Australia in the co-drivers seat.
Brian Mc Garraghy is entering his 30th Sligo Stages Rally, having started his rallying in a Mk1 Escort back in the early eighties, as a young competitor with his brother Kieran. He blames that hunger for rallying on being a passenger with friend Barry Foley sweeping the stage in an Alpha Sud Ti in his youth. Brian participated in Sligo events down through the years including the single stages, and this year on hearing that one of the great classics was running, he turned down the invite to do 00 safety to throw in an entry to the main event in the Yellow Mk 2. The other added bonus is that his son Mark is returning from Australia to sit in the navigator seat. His current car VEI 886 which transitioned through many stages of development to what it is today, a very well prepared & well presented car. Having grown up near the classic Gleniff Horseshoe stage which tested the best of drivers over the years, competing for him on that stage meant passing by the home farm. Ironically now living outside Letterkenny, he resides beside another classic Donegal International stage, Carnhill. Brian also navigated for a number of drivers, including Trevor Lancashire , Noel Lappin, Gerard Highland and Andre Roberts.
